@the_vintagearian: Leave a #🌴 if you like! 🤭 Disembarking the ferry our first destination was the Gothenburg Palm House! 😃 Modelled after the Crystal Palace for the Great Exhibition of 1851 in London this cast iron and plate glass construction from 1878 features on roughly 1,000 square meters five sections climate zones providing tropical warmth for exotic plants and trees. 💡My favourite is the giant Victoria waterlily named in honour of Queen Victoria and it is famous for its huge floating leaves (or pads as they are called), being able to carry up to 226 kg with their ribbed under structure and veining which inspired the architect Joseph Paxton to design the construction of the Crystal Palace 🤓 Maybe you have like myself read the Linnea picture books as a child - telling the young girls journey to visit the gardens of the French artist Claude Monet in Giverny?
