If you don’t want to use the cloud get a backup hard drive BUT that doesn’t help now. However this happpened to me and apple sent me to a 3rd party that recovered all my stuff! It wasn’t cheap…

Was the iPad on iCloud backup? They should be saved somewhere it shows in settings if backup is on
