A common question I get is how I manage to keep my body so flat in the water, especially my legs, while barely kicking. My answer is simple: focus on body position. Keep your head down, and maintain your body level with the water’s surface. Engage your core muscles to stay straight and streamlined. But how do you develop those core muscles? Sure, I could tell you to hit the gym and work on core exercises like sit-ups and other drills. While that will help improve your strength and shape, it’s not the complete solution for engaging your core effectively in the water. One thing that will help is incorporating kicking into your sessions. Use a kickboard and focus on consistent kicking. The kick itself should be a whip-like movement starting from your hips and extending all the way to your toes. Another key aspect is focusing on swimming sets that emphasize time, not just technique. Do interval sets like 10x100m or 20x50m with a fixed start time. This helps you build endurance and efficiency. Finally, instead of relying on a pull buoy, try using a flat kickboard when swimming with just your arms or with paddles. The pull buoy holds your legs up for you, but when using the kickboard, you’ll need to engage your core muscles to keep it in place, which will naturally train the core engagement you need. And remember, be patient - it takes time! #swimbikerun #swimming #triathlon #natation #nage #nager #swim #nageur #switzerland #suisse #montagne #mountains #openwaterswimming #monaco #mermediterranee #mediterranean #whale
