There is no "right" or "wrong" way to wash your hair. However for those who are struggling with things like tangles, breakage, and excess oil, these are alternative methods to try. 3 Shampooing Mistakes: ❌ Shampooing tangled hair. This mats the hair up worse and leads to breakage and it's hard to reach your scalp when tangles are in the way. ✅ Instead try detangle before you shampoo with conditioner on wet hair, or some oil on dry hair. Rinse lightly, then shampoo and you'll be amazed at how much easier it is. I also condition again after. ❌ Not thoroughly applying shampoo, starting in just one area and not spreading it around evenly. This can lead to patches that aren't clean and excess oil after wash day. ✅ Instead, try emulsifying the shampoo in your palms so it's easier to spread. For thick hair, shampoo in sections. ❌ Shampooing & scrubbing too rough/fast and pulling the ends upward. This causes more tangles, frizz, and unnecessary friction. ✅ Instead, try keeping the hair pointed downwards. Apply shampoo to the top, massage it downwards, and work it through the ends or just let the water run the shampoo over your ends. I prefer to shampoo upright to avoid matting up my hair and I shed less upright.
