@intervoke: Dopamine in the brain's dorsal striatum is key for controlling movement. When a neuron gets a signal, it releases dopamine into the synaptic cleft, where it binds to receptors on the next neuron to transmit the signal. Some of this dopamine is recycled and repackaged for future use, thanks to VMAT2. VMAT2 inhibitors stop this process, reducing the amount of dopamine in each signal.
