Palestinians in Gaza are celebrating Ramadan despite being surrounded by the rubble of their homes. Ramadan is the holy month for Muslims, during which they fast every day from sunrise to sunset, refraining from eating and drinking. They wake up early in the morning before sunrise to eat their first meal, called Suhoor, a well-balanced meal that allows them to continue throughout the day without food and water. Once the evening call to prayer is made, Muslims break their fast with a meal called Iftar, or breakfast. Despite the destruction and the loss they endured for more than 16 months, Palestinians in Gaza are steadfast in enjoying the holy month of Ramadan. On the first hours of Saturday, March 1, Palestinians had their first Suhoor this Ramadan. Thousands gathered in Khan Younis in Rafah and organized a collective Suhoor. At the evening call to prayer or Maghrib prayer, about 5,000 people gathered to break their fast together. People set a 500-meter long table where thousands of people reunited to eat iftar, with decorations and lights. After the iftar, they celebrated by having desserts and participated in fun activities and challenges for the kids. Al Jazeera reported that people said this year’s Ramadan was more joyful because it came during a ceasefire, instead of under the constant fear of bombing like the last Ramadan in March 2024. Last year, people fasted nearly the whole day, with little to no food to break their fast. However, the first phase of the ceasefire deal ended on March 1 without an agreement on a second phase. On Sunday, March 2, Israel blocked all humanitarian aid entry into Gaza, saying it wants Hamas to release all the remaining hostages before agreeing to a second phase of the ceasefire, which comprised Israel troops withdrawal from Gaza. A Hamas spokesperson said Israel blocking aid into Gaza “is cheap blackmail, a war crime and a blatant coup against the (ceasefire) agreement” and urged mediators to intervene. #palestine #palestinian #israel #israeli #gaza #Ramadan #ramada2025 #ramadankarim #islam #iftar #suhoor #ceasefire #Home #homes #food #aid #netanyahu #غزة #رمضان #فلسطين#fyp #edutok #LearnOnTikTok #tiktoknews
