Sounds like the AI is working as AI. It doesn't make smart decisions, it predicts expected behavior. So if everyone is cutting into the same highway to get home causing traffic, it suggests you do too

I thought it legit was me, my maps has been seemingly only set to taking me the longest way possible, like a drive that should take me 20 mins, it’ll set me on a route that takes 30mins

10ish years ago, they changed their algorithm to keep people off side streets due to complaints from residents about increased traffic down them.

I went on a trip recently and it took us 15 minutes one direction just to do a circle and go the other way on the same road. Also tried to have us turn onto a road that had a sign saying we couldn’t

I just use it for the detail maps. The purpose is to slow you down if your under 20 miles per hour you can hit someone and they survive. project zero

NO it's been insisting on making me take THE STREETS instead of the freeway, and will reroute me mid-drive without informing me. I have fuel-efficiency off and everything. I thought I was going insane

there's like a "prefer more efficient routes" feature hidden in the settings that made my maps do this. shutting that off kinda helped but it still wants to switch routes sometimes

I’ve noticed this too. My theory is they got flack for rerouting people from interstates onto local roads not designed for the load, making it worse

It keeps "learning" alternative routes and I'm watching it make people take extra loops or longer routes. 😭 If I take an Uber, it always takes people to the wrong driveway first, always the same one

mine has me cut through parking lots and going behind supermarkets. neighborhoods with stop signs every ten feet. it's not faster

google literally made me go down a side road and go in a semicircle to avoid a stoplight that wouldve made it 100x easier to turn into traffic on 🙃

I pick the route I want and then turn my data off so it can't change to anything else. If I get turned around or something happens I turn it back on but the auto switching was driving me crazy

My favorite is they’ll try to reroute me to take a right hand turn, go completely in a circle, and then end up back at the same spot before going forward. Somehow they always expect it to add 40 min

I used to drive an International flatbed and I'd make deliveries like 5-6 hours away. I'd use Google maps, tell it the route I want, and halfway through it just DECIDED SOMETHING DIFFERENT???

I've had it keep dropping service in the middle- sometimes it tells me it's lost, sometimes not. anything else using data has uninterrupted service
