The moon is there. I can simply set out a camera and record the sky and the moon will be there. No consciousness is observing it when that camera is recording.

That is a bit of a stretch for what this actually proved, but it did make this idea scientifically plausible. Local realism is just the idea that things must directly interact to affect one another
