As an elective teacher, this sounds daunting. I see the positives and I see the good for it, but it also sounds like it puts a lot of pressure on the elective teachers that day

Do the teachers still have daily prep time? It sounds like just having all specials on one day instead of once a day.

I know a school system where every Wednesday is a half day. Kids go home and teachers plan and have their meetings. 🥰

But it’s okay for the electives teachers to take on more work? Do the elective teachers get a full day off, too?

School year 2020-2021 we had “Virtual Friday” every other Friday. Teachers would post a virtual assignment in their Goggle Classrooms and kids would log in and complete the assignment at home.

A day of electives would have been amazing but also add a mandatory study Hall in the middle of the day would go so far

Do you not get what we would call PPA time? It’s where we essentially get half a day out of class to do our planning, preparation and assessment stuff.

This sounds amazing, but if we lost a day every week, there’s no way we could get through the curriculum. It’s already next to impossible with the time we have them in class now 😕

Red River Parish Schools have no kids on Fridays. We do pd, lessons planning grades room prep etc on that day. We run a balanced calendar yr (year round)

We have something similar to this but no one gets a break/free period. All kids must be drafted to where they need help or they may choose an elective if not drafted.

We need more electives. My daughter is a star student but she by far puts tons of effort into her electives. They keep her motivated. Same with my son who doesn’t like school. The power of choice.
