How to Clean Up Dog Wee on Rugs or Carpets – Step-by-Step 🐾 After so many comments on my last reel about cleaning up cat wee with mouthwash, I’ve made this tutorial specifically for dog wee! While mouthwash can work for dog urine, it’s not my top recommendation. Here’s my go-to method for getting rid of that unpleasant smell and stain the right way. 1️⃣ Act Fast! If you see the wee when it’s freshly done, grab a towel and slip it under the rug (if it’s a rug—obviously you can’t do this with carpet!). You want to dilute the urine as quickly as possible. 2️⃣ Use Fizzy Water (Club Soda) 💦 Pour fizzy soda water over the wee. The bicarbonate of soda in it neutralises the urine, so you’re dealing with more water and less concentrated urine – it makes the job much easier. 3️⃣ Suck Out the Moisture 🚰 Use a spot cleaner to extract as much liquid as possible. If you don’t have one, press down with lots of old towels (or something heavy) to soak up the moisture from both sides. If possible, lift the carpet and prop it up to dry and allow air to circulate underneath. (In my last video, I didn’t show this step, and so many people asked for it!) 4️⃣ Enzyme Cleaner for the Win! 🧼 Once the urine is diluted and most of the moisture is removed, use an enzyme cleaner specifically made for pets to break down the proteins in the wee. If you don’t have one, biological laundry detergent diluted in water will also do the trick. Enzymes digest the proteins, removing the smell and stain properly. 5️⃣ Dealing with Odours 🧴 Once it’s dry, if there’s any lingering smell, this is when I recommend using white vinegar. Clean the carpet again with pure white vinegar or diluted 50-50 with water. Once it dries, sprinkle bicarbonate of soda liberally over the area, leave it overnight, and then vacuum it up in the morning. ✨ Pro Tip: It’s important to follow these steps in order. Don’t sprinkle bicarbonate of soda first – treat the stain with an enzyme cleaner before dealing with any smells.
