October 22,2025 will be 8 years without my son Jace. He would be 10 if he was still here, but passed at 2 years old in his sleep when we laid him down for a nap with chocolate milk still left in his stomach from his bottle and whatever he had for lunch that day (that part I don’t remember). But chocolate milk was his favorite. And that’s one of the only details I can remember from before my husband found him in his bed unresponsive and brought him down to me where I called 911 and preformed CPR until the police, fire rescue and ambulance all came flying through the front door. My oldest son (then 7) was home when this happened and seen everything. We try so hard as parents to protect our children. On October 22, 2017….. I failed to protect BOTH of my children. And it will forever be something I have to live with. But not a day goes by where I’m not wishing I could have brought my son back before first responders got there. But it was out of my hands and I couldn’t. I tried. I did everything dispatch told me to do on the phone and nothing worked. They shocked his heart multiple times. Nothing worked. He was gone. They tried again at the hospital…… nothing worked. It was over. I had a camera in his room aimed at his face. I just thought he was sleeping. He looked like he was sleeping. I didn’t no….. we didn’t no…. Could I have saved him if we would have checked on him sooner….. honestly…… I don’t know…. MAYBE…. But we’ll never know.
