Management will never understand is that only a small fraction of the developer's role fits into copilot. Copilot is good for writing boiler plate functions, it does not understand entire projects

Most companies don't have "real" strategy (principles of "why" to do a thing or make a certain choice)... so their OKRs and KPIs are mostly vanity metrics.

Anecdotal but as an engineer, the time I save using LLM vs search when it comes to filling knowledge gaps has been surprising to me. I’m all in.

AI is not equal. If you give a racing car to a normal driver and expect miracles.

Currently there is no real life use cases that AI can take over completely except for editing or rewriting. OpenAI models need constant monitoring sometimes creating more busy work

I’ve found copilot has really helped me write better and more content. I have to write quite a bit and it’s certainly made me more productive. Also, writing up my meeting notes and actions post

TBH, Copilot is not that great. GPT4 is great; so is Anthropic. Gemini is good. But safety and security are real concerns with online models. Not worth the risk in big companies.

Could become an employee wellbeing pitch? When the pendulum swings back (as it does), having ai could help attract staff 🤷🏻♀️

For me AI tools equate to a lifehack, I absolutely use them for busy work, but I bill the full time because no one really appreciates how much more efficient they make me. #TeamDogWalk

Speaking from a CAD perspective out of the 90s, we shortened design time until materials and construction could never keep up. How much can you improve a business takes more than AI.

I’m finding that my teams are already asking for AI tools, with specific ideas for how and what they’ll refocus on . Are we headed for a million bespoke supercharged API-like mini LLM “helpers”?
