@luckyudu: As we go about our protest, I would like to share my thoughts on the removal of the fuel subsidy and how it affects us all. The government says that the fuel subsidy is too expensive to keep. They want to use the money for things like roads, schools, and hospitals. While these are important, removing the fuel subsidy has made life very hard for many Nigerians. Even though the government says they can’t afford the subsidy, they still spend a lot of money on projects that don't seem to help us directly. They also give out food to the poorest people, but this food only lasts for a day. People still need to buy other things to cook and eat, but with prices going up because of high fuel costs, they can’t afford these extra items. There are also reports that the money saved from the subsidy is being misused. If the government can’t manage this money properly, their argument against the subsidy doesn’t make sense. Since the subsidy was removed, the price of fuel has gone up from ₦150 to over ₦700 per liter. This huge increase has made everything more expensive. Transport costs have gone up, making it harder for people to get to work or move their goods. All these have caused the prices of food and other items to rise. The poorest and most vulnerable people are the ones suffering the most. The recent increase in the minimum wage from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000 was supposed to help. But if fuel prices keep rising, this increase might lead to higher prices for everything else, reducing the benefit of the increased minimum wage. When wages go up, businesses often raise their prices to cover the extra cost of paying their workers more. If the cost of fuel is still high, this can lead to even more price increases, causing inflation. This means that even though people are earning more, they can buy less because everything costs more. Bringing back the fuel subsidy would make life more affordable for everyone because if fuel prices are low, it would reduce transport costs and the prices of goods and services, making it easier for everyone to get by. This would provide immediate relief and help our economy. Fuel affects everyone. It powers our homes, businesses, and transport. Unlike education or healthcare, which not everyone can access, everyone needs fuel every day. Fuel is essential for our daily lives, and its affordability is crucial for our well-being. Let’s come together to ask the government to rethink their decision on the fuel subsidy. This is not just about money; it’s about improving the quality of life for millions of Nigerians. Stay strong, stay united, and let’s make our voices heard! Lucky Udu
