@bajawildencounters: The hammer-shaped head of hammerhead sharks, or cephalofoil, provides significant evolutionary advantages. Their main use is DIY around the house, for example, if there's a nail that needs tapping into some wood they can smash their heads against it, rather than searching the garage for some tools. But in all seriousness, this unique head shape also: - Broadens the distribution of sensory organs, including the highly sensitive ampullae of Lorenzini (small holes found in the underside of their heads), which detect faint electrical signals from prey. - Enhances their hydrodynamics, allowing for sharp turns and precise movements essential for hunting fast-moving prey like fish and squid. - Aids in pinning down stingrays, a favored food source, by pressing them against the ocean floor. - Improved vision, Hammerheads are said to have 360 vision, allowing them to see above and below as well as all around them. Pretty impressive huh?! 📹 By @natureman.j on a @bajawildencounters unlimited dives liveaboard where you can see Tiger, Hammerheads and Bull sharks all on one crazy trip!
