As a Black belt in 2 disciplines, if I spar with someone lower than a blue belt, I go almost purely defensive and give out pointers on how to combat the denfenses Im using, I almost always "lose" too.

I'm a martial artist, and mismatched rank sparring sessions DO happen..often. Issue is, the black belt needs and is expected to show restraint/control so each can learn (the main premise of SPARRING)
