As a veteran parent - sometimes flipping the script just shocks them into stopping their meltdown. It also works well for teenagers! 😂

The other morning I threw a fit. Told the 3 year old that it was my turn because she already has 3 fits before 7am and it wasn’t fair that she got all the turns. 🤷♀️

I’ll ask my kiddo off the wall questions like “ do you think dinosaurs fart?” 😂 The more off the wall the better

one time my son was inconsolably LOSING it because the street repavers didn't work on Sunday, and I just pretended to faint right there on the kitchen floor

I work in behavior management. it's literally a tactic we recommend lol. doing something silly and out of the norm often works as a distraction from that meltdown. don't feel guilt. it helped change

This seems like a very gentle way to parent without having to curse or yell. I’m gonna try it the next time my 10yr old is lippy. 🤣

Whenever my 4yr old can tell she’s gone too far she’ll stop and have all the audacity to tell ME to calm down and just breathe 😂

No this is good! When littles are in a meltdown it is literally impossible for them to process anything. It’s a reset. You found a fun way to help her calm down! Then you can talk about it after ♥️

I read somewhere that if you start singing one of their favourite songs but change some of the lyrics when they’re annoyed, they want to correct you but the brain can’t be in meltdown and remember

I one time did the meltdown with my kid, with her. She looked me dead in the eyes and went “stop. That’s embarrassing. You ok?” And I replied with “it’s embarrassing when you do it too. Don’t

my mom used to applaud and give my brothers' tantrums scores. hearing her clapping and encouraging them "yayyy! 7/10! keep going!" really confused the heck outta them 🤣
