@digital.byte: Last week, I had an engineer message me a wireless tip to share with you all. So here's his story: Troubleshooting wireless issues is never fun. Guessing which closet the AP runs to, checking the controller to see what's offline... It takes a lot of time. During a project to install new AP's, he realized you could store a lot of information in a QR code. QR codes can be easily scanned with a phone to get any details needed for installing or troubleshooting. After installing the QR codes on the front of all AP's, their team had users scan the code to give them the info when reporting any issues. An absolute game changer for resolving issues faster. Would you use this wireless trick? P.S. If you have a story you'd like to share, DM me or comment below!! #informationtechnology #networking #networkengineer #sysadmin #wifi #wireless
All fun and games until configuration changes are made and a new QR code isn't printed, that will be the end of that system lol

I use a QR code on each PC that details the specs of the machine (cpu, ram, HDD/SSD, programs installed, OS). That way myself, my sysadmin and general manager can get the info needed fast

A bit much. Ap Name and patch panel port assignment labeled on the AP. Rename AP on the controller with name. Setup floor map in DNAC, place AP on floor map. Done.

They should just have a number on the AP and that number should correspond to a data entry with that info. I like the idea, but it's just too risky 😂

also tempted to do this for our Cisco VoIP phones, so I can know basic information w/o needing a LinkRunner

I did the same thing but mine would send the info to the ticket form to type the issue and hit submit. The easiest way to do this is Google form and using their link template.

From a security perspective, this might be problematic, no?

You can literally put the mac address on the sticker, along with the AP name. No need for QR codes or anything too fancy.

As someone who used to build wireless networks for companies that is a smart and simple solution to what the management software and VLAN should be doing 😂 always print documents and places them near

All well and good until you hire a temp that will read that and cause trouble. How do I know? Been there.
