Struggling to build muscle? You’ve probably heard that in order to build muscle, you need to spend hours in the gym right? Wrong! Spending more than an hour and a half in the gym is counterproductive, and unsustainable long term. If you can lift weights for more than that, then you’re not training hard enough, especially on leg days, if you hit them🤣 I get it, you see all these bodybuilders spending hours in the gym, so you think that’s normal. Keep in mind, they’re on a strict workout/diet plan, and the average person can’t do what they’re doing So what should you do then? If you’re a busy person, then I’d suggest lifting weights twice per week minimum, a full body workout for 30 minutes to an hour. I do that personally if I only have 2 days a week to lift weights. As long as you lift more weight for more reps overtime, then you’ll build muscle, which is what progressive overload is btw. The majority of your muscle building journey needs to be spent in a bulking phase. No, I’m not telling you to get fat. Aim to gain 0.25-0.5 pounds per week. At the bare minimum, spend 4-6 months bulking, preferably 6 months or longer to see more consistent progress. If you’re under 18, then there’s no need to lose body fat/partake in “summer shreds” unless you’re overweight or obese. You’ll build muscle without needing to cut weight since your muscle building capabilities are higher at a young age, especially when you’re lean bulking! Also, your entire life doesn’t need to revolve around the gym. Making time for God, family, and friends, is also good for your mental health along with improving your physical health too! You can get a really good workout in within 30 minutes to an hour if you train close to or to failure, while also resting 2-5 minutes in between sets to give your next sets their best effort! Also, I’m guilty of lifting weights for 2-3 hours in the past when I didn’t know any better😭 Leave a comment with the longest time you’ve ever spent in the gym! #howtobuildmuscle #gym #bodybuilding #weightlifting #progressiveoverload
