In one of the clips, we can see and learn that Gypsy's mother, Dee Dee, was in prison when she was young, and Gypsy was raised by her grandmother. When Dee Dee returned home from prison, she saw that her daughter was more attached to her grandmother than to her own mother, and this made her nervous. Because of that, Dee Dee and her mother started arguing. In my opinion, Dee Dee lied about Gypsy being sick and kept deceiving her because she didn't want Gypsy to leave her.
