“I’d like to see you two in 10 or 20 years.” So would I. 🤍 People say this to me as if growing older were something I should be afraid of. As if love only belonged to the years when we are young, healthy, independent and strong. But when I think about our future, that isn’t what I feel. I feel incredibly lucky to have found a kind of love that somehow becomes even stronger when life isn’t easy. Of course I hope we have countless healthy, beautiful years ahead of us. I hope we keep traveling, making plans, laughing at stupid things and coming home to each other for a very, very long time. But I also know that life changes us. Maybe one day my husband won’t be as strong as he is today. Maybe he’ll need me in ways he doesn’t now. And strangely enough, that thought has never made me want to run. It makes me grateful that, if that day ever comes, I might have the privilege of being the person beside him. If one day he can’t be strong for me, I’ll be strong for both of us. I’ll hold his hand. I’ll take care of him. I’ll remind him of the life we built when he needs reminding. And I know, without a doubt, that he would do exactly the same for me if our roles were reversed. Because to me, love was never a promise to stay only while life is beautiful. It is the promise that when life becomes less beautiful, you are still the person I want beside me. Sometimes I see other age-gap couples being asked what will happen in 10 or 20 years, and they simply say, “We’ll see. We’re enjoying the present.” And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. But it has never been my answer. Because somewhere very quietly inside me, I already know mine. I don’t just love the man my husband is today. I want the privilege of loving every version of him that time allows me to meet. So when someone tells me, “I’d like to see you two in 20 years”… I smile. Because so would I. More than anything. 🤍 #agegapcouple #agegaprelationship #marriage #lovestory #marriedlife
