I was looking to see if anyone had the same opinions as me. I’m ~100 pages in, ready to DNR. The age gap is weird to me, Joe is 12 & ox is 17. I’m also just getting the ick overall. The chanting of “sonbrotherfriendlover” or ox “singing his song” ? It was so highly praised by the person (locally owned bookstore) that sold it to me, I regret spending money on this book.

I finished it today. There’s three sex scenes in the entire book, but the grooming is definitely a parent. The age gap is not cute especially at the point in their lives. It would be one thing if they met when Joe was 17 and the story developed from there even still Because giving a child that level of understanding in terms of relationships really fuck things up.
