@theporcelainteeze: Replying to @clacha3 the same people who would do nothing would leave a dog outside in subzero temps because it “has a coat” #chickens #chickentok #animal #boktok #foryoupage
It’s not good at all to get a chickens feathers soaked especially in the heat

I'm trying to figure out the thought process of why they think chickens don't need to be cooled off

I have thought about this much but it makes a lot of sense. I grew up raising chickens and I am fortunate to come from the Midwest near the Great lakes where it rarely gets above 80.

A sprinkler & a shade pop up, maybe a box fan shoved up in the top of the pop up to make it less miserable for the whole yard

the water buckets are a good short term solution, but it would be better to have access to shade. even a pop up gazebo or something for them to go under will be 10-15° cooler than the direct sunlight

Humans can also self cool in 95+ degree weather. Does that mean AC shoulsnt exist?

Honestly even if they were in no danger and would just enjoy it and be comfortable I'd want to help them cool off, idk how someone can have chickens and not want to look after them

people think I'm nuts because I insist on having a proper climate in my cat's space because my AC broke one time and I came home to her panting like a dog, of course a chicken needs cool air in summer

mine always dug holes in the ground and chilled in them. they always had plenty of shade because the run was completely covered with a tarp.

It’s my first summer owning chickens. I have an 8x10ft resin shed as a coop, I have 4 fans inside. A 8x20ft fenced run with half covered & half not. They have a misting fan at ground level & a kiddie pool. But my girls are still panting. I feel awful. I’m doing Ice in water, frozen veggies.
