looks like at one point the water was up to the edges they lived on and carved that out. then the water dropped and they built. imagine being by the water and still under, kinda, the land above you.

When this area was populated, it was not as dry and the area around was more heavily wooded. Once all the trees were gone and nothing grew anymore the people up and left

they did feel safe , it was a temporary stay 2 to 4 years, they were on the move after leaving captivity from Mongolia, they were taken captives by assyria, the migration back home was long and hard
