don't think they were for departed relatives cos they probably have tablets at home or temples. those offerings is way of showing kindness to "roaming" spirits who are forsaken by their descendents.

Not entirely correct. We pay respects to fam & relatives who've passed, & ancestors during QingMing (ard end-March/early April) instead. Hungry Ghost Festival is more for wanderin souls/ghosts...

If accidentally step on the offering, just say a word of sorry. Also do not pick up shiny objects (like rings, coins etc) on the ground if you come across them. Be safe, just for this one month🙏🏻
