As a high school teacher, this is infuriating. We can’t ask for communal supplies because they have 8 different teachers. So these parents who don’t send enough supplies in elementary never 1/2

My annoyance of the ‘school lists’ is everyone buys a little. Like let me buy AALLL the tissues and I will just get costco cases of tissues. Someone else can get a case of pencils

My roster before I took a break from the profession was 35-37 students x 7 courses a day (HS) — if *each* of my students needed ONE pencil ONCE that year, it would have been 245 pencils minimum.

that crayon mom has clearly never watched my preschooler color an entire sheet of paper one color. she just basically takes the white paper and makes it a blue paper (or whatever color) haha

at my kid's school communal supplies are grades kindergarten to two. that being said, my older kids share if a classmate is without something for some reason and I just replace it.

I still go back to if you have a kid in public school SOMEONE on your block without school age kids is paying taxes toward education YOUR kid is benefiting from. The structure as a whole is communal!

I live in Renton, WA, outside of Seattle. We do not bring school supplies. Parents for K-5 pay $30.00 per child if they can. The district buys them, so all supplies are shared with all.
