But there were women as great as books.” —Sheikha Helawy in the preface of her collection They Fell Like Stars From the Sky 🌟 There are very few books by Palestinian authors translated into English, and only a handful by women. These are far too often not available at our indie bookstores or libraries. And as we mentioned in a Reel last week, we can’t help but believe more individuals would have an understanding of Palestine’s past and present if these stories were available, demanding liberation. This Women in Translation month and beyond, reading stories by Palestinian authors in translation is important. And uplifting and amplifying these authors to demonstrate to publishers that they must bring these stories to readers is a must. We can request them at our library and indie, and raise awareness on our social channels.
