Parentification forces trauma bonding. A complete mind eff when you come to understand what was happening.

I also feel guilty because I've out matured my mother and now it seems like I'm picking on a child.

My mom always got mad at me for sleeping and napping and hanging out in my room - I have chronic issues but I also didn’t want to be around her, it was too hard! I got yelled at cause I wasn’t —-

You mean my mom crying to me about my dad cheating on her at 9, could have had a lasting impact on me

Getting therapy, learning about emotionally immature parents, and having healthy distance has helped me heal - your page has too!

My mom expects me to listen to her complaining about my dad bc I’m her daughter aka “friend” & she also wants me to yell at him as the eldest child. It’s just wrong.

My mom told me about all my dad’s affairs and had me call her job to get off work. It was always her favorite to trap me in the car and ramble on about her problems. Never asking me about me!

i was a parent pleaser growing up and whenever i did something wrong, i feel like a disappointment. i think this is why i have such a deep fear of disappointing people and how they perceive me-

I get the sense that many of us are in a chain of emotional immaturity where each generation is trying to get from the next what they couldnt from the last

They never told me anything. Ever. It was pure obedience and walking on eggshells around them. Always mattered how they felt, not me, & not disobeying them or making them mad or disappointed.

My Mom still doesn't understand what is/is not appropriate to vent about. When I change the subject I get told I'm being cold. It's so frustrating.

I have a 2yo- we work VERY hard to gentle parent, validate his feelings. He started apologizing constantly and I realized it is because I STILL APOLOGIZE 200x a day for everything & I’m horrified

Me at 3 listening to both my parents problems and tantrums like a therapist 👶🏽 becoming a parentified girl with the whole world on my shoulders.

If you’ve been raised this way, what does one do -now as an adult? How do you walk away from a family member who is sick, not only mentally but physically now.

It’s the same as adulthood. They want to talk about their work problems and personal issues all the time.(1)

This post literally explains how I have felt for nearly the last 50 years regarding my mom, and it’s even harder now that my dad died in June. I thought I was crazy. Thank you!
