Court stenographer. It’s typed out because it’s more reliable. A trial is a conversation. Recordings wouldn’t be able to tell who said what.

Stenography! I went to school for Court Reporting! It was haaardd - I got up to 80 WPM but got bored so quick hahaha. Also, voice to text is so unreliable 😂😂 the amount of times my text says 1/2

a stenographer can keep track of who is saying what, they are probably better at understanding accents, they are responsive to direction, they know what info is relevant to record.

I work for a judge. We often need to cite to things said during the hearing. It's a lot easier to cite to a transcript than an audio file.

they often record audio and video. however a stenographer is needed as a witness and to provide a clear transcript because some people do not speak clear enough for dictation

My wife is a court reporter and since Covid I’ve heard her working depositions on zoom. Sometimes 5 people are talking over eachother all in different accents + an interpreter. No shot… lol
