You can't change them; you can only change your response to them. 2) Setting boundaries is not selfish - it's essential for your mental health and personal growth. It's okay to limit contact or say no to unreasonable demands. 3) Your worth is not determined by your parents' approval or by how much you please others. Focus on building self-esteem from within rather than seeking external validation. 4) It's normal to grieve the parent-child relationship you wished you had. Allow yourself to feel that loss, but also work on accepting the reality of who your parents were back then when you were a child and who they are today. 5) Developing your own emotional maturity and self-awareness can help break generational patterns.
