55 late diagnosis, going through this right now, feeling crucified can’t stop crying. Wondering if everything I’ve been through in my life could have been avoided, never fit in always been bullied, really don’t know what to do with the information, wondering if I would have been better off not knowing

I'm 53 and have got my autism assessment on Friday. I'm actually a bit worried they'll say I *don't* have it, as then I won't know how to explain or deal with 'how I am'! 🥺

I'm 50 just realised yesterday I've been a high masking autistic woman. I burst into tears today when I felt this child inside whispering 'you mean I'm not broken? There's nothing wrong with me? 💓

I'm currently grieving the fact that my life will never be "normal" or "easy". But there is no medication to fix this, because there is nothing to fix in the end.

So absolutely true. Diagnosis is death of the old self, the previously known self. And grieving Helps us accept the newly developing person. Love your insights, gonna follow you!

Like all grief, it was intense, and now comes in waves. I give myself the grace to feel it when it comes 💜💜💜

I do experience this grief from time to time, but it quickly fades to forgiveness when I realize that all parties involved didn’t know better.

I've been sat waiting for two years for my assessment. tried asking about right to choose and my GP dismissed me even though I said I'm really struggling. 😞

My 13 year old son was diagnosed last year. I haven't told him yet. He's starting secondary school now. He's doing great in school and has great friends. I don't want to rock the boat. Am I right ?

I was diagnosed at 40. I'm almost 44. I'm beyond angry I didn't and can't seem to get the accommodations and actual help I need to succeed in academia, and how many TRAINED people missed it. /1

I'm 45 and I feel let down from parents and also my school. Looking at my school records it explains everything. Also a good job I didn't get cause I froze and went non verbal after an unexpected question.

Yeah I got diagnosed almost a year ago when I was 30 and it’s been a lot to process. This is definitely something I’m going through and processing still. It’s a lot

Yes, 100% thank you! I was diagnosed at 55 years old. It made me so happy and it yet it also broke my heart. It was a lifetime of being misunderstood, including by me.

Here I am at sixty nine years of age, only know can I look back and understand why my life has been such a train wreck. The bad decisions, the missed opportunities, the lifelong search for answers. With understanding has come grief, has come sadness. I can now see it in my father and my son, generations of our family blighted by autism.

when I was younger I didn't understand that I had autism until I was the age of 12 but what made me grief was how I tried being another person so that people would be my friend and even though
