I raised questions and suggestions to the Government and the Ministers: 1️⃣ Safety of digital products when it comes to loss of assets - should it be held to the same standards as safety of physical goods? ➡️ If your family owns a car and there is a design issue leading to bodily harm or loss of your savings, you know what the manufacturer must do. ➡️ Financial institutions, banks, telcos and technology firms should shoulder responsibility in the digital world the way tangible goods providers do in the physical world. 2️⃣ How are we preparing for the wave of AI deepfakes, which will only get more advanced? 3️⃣ Are we being bold enough when it comes to investing in new technology for Singapore? Firms like Apple, @Google, and @Facebook would not have seemed sure bets at the beginning — but look at where they are now. And those who invested early would have gotten big dividends. Likewise when investing in new capabilities for Government and our economy. Also shared about the emails and messages received from as far away as the USA and Africa, following last year’s speech on Singapore’s Survival in The Age of AI. It was a humbling experience, and a reminder that people around the world watch what we do. They listen to our Parliamentarians, whether our Ministers and Office Holders, whether our back-benchers of various persuasions, looking to the future about what the world will be like. People look at what Singapore’s thinking about, and they want us to try and find a way forward as well.
