@mixedlinguist: Does Tim Walz sound very Minnesota? How does he compare to Harris? Nerd alert: this video has maps and vowel plots, but you can probably still get and idea of what’s going on, even if you’re not a linguist! Also, bear with me, I’m a professor, not an influencer! #linguistics #kamala #walz
This is SO fascinating. I’ve been loving learning from you.

I am in love with the Minnesota accent for "bag" and "milk." idk why, but specifically those 2 words make me so happy anytime I hear them

Love this and love seeing you go TikTok viral! One thing that struck me is how he said “Silicon.” Said it the way I associate more with British English.

Such a good explanation! I've been trying to figure his accent out.. it sounds a lot my my grandma's accent who was born in Storm Lake, Iowa but moved to Southern Minnesota.

As someone who grew up in Iowa, lived in Wisconsin, he doesn’t have much of an accent. To me, it’s what he says more than how he says it that makes him sound Midwest.

so interesting! the area circled as "Atlantic provinces" didn't include Newfoundland (very fun accents there). the 3 provinces of NB, PEI and NS are the Maritimes and a bit different than NFLD speech

I’d love for you to analyze the speech patterns of Trump-Vance because Trump speaks a lower class dialect of NYC English but Vance doesn’t have typical Appalachia accent, but claims it as home.
