I think I’d rather pay extra for an Apple TV out of sheer spite. Apple might overcharge me for hardware but at least they’ll support it for a reasonable period and moderately protect my privacy.

Not the only company guilty of discontinuing devices, fire tv is going too. Going forward I’ll be using a PC for streaming to avoid issues with branded devices becoming bricked.
