Your friend Kaye :
I agree with so much you are saying. But as a person in her 50s, I know many people who took this route, but company policy limits their promotions because they don’t have a degree

I have told both my girls this. They both decided they still want a degree. They are paying their own way with no student loans because I refuse to let them. They are living at home though. I tried.

The last 3 receptionists at my job had college degrees. It wasn’t required of course but it is what landed the interview.

While I agree with what you said, saying only 7% requires a degree is misleading. By law you may not need a degree but that doesn’t change the fact that your resume will be thrown out if you dont.

Why is no one talk about how signing for college loans for your child affect your own credit and you’re open to buy ,you’re stuck with this debt and they may not go into field they graduated for.

I’m a HUGE proponent of college buts gotten out of control and I’m so glad to see employers are starting to back off on requiring that 4 yr degree. It was never right.

Disagree about the scholarship piece. Degree earners earn $1.5 million on average more than high school grads. $1 million in life time earnings. But school isn’t for everyone. Get through as

Higher Ed employee- Very true. I wish more parents had this conversation. I HATE the cases where the student gets in, can't afford it, then drops out after 2 years. All the debt. No degree.

How do we find out what jobs are available or jobs that exist that my son can investigate? I grew up GenX where the options were like teacher, cop, or doctor lol

With a company for 25 years and wasn’t allowed to move to management position because I didn’t have a bachelors. HR policy. Wasn’t that way when I started. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Notable exception: Engineering. With a BS you can get a $70k (min) right out of school. Lots of math though.

I like what you’re stating here, but in my field I needed trade school to get in. Ok, nbd. To move up though—where the big money is—you do need a degree. So here I am working a full time job+school
