Dogs who live on the rez that belong to families wear collars. This is so when rescues come in to assist they don't take a family pet. Check with the town and you may be able to have both.

Can I just say thank you for understanding what a Rez dog is! Many do attach themselves to people but some are just roamers. They get food and water but don’t want to stay in one place.
