I pulled up to the museum around 12:30. Parking was $3 an hour 🥴 but I told myself let’s see if I can galavant through in time and not break the bank. Lately, most of my activities have to be free — car troubles been playing in my face heavy, stacking close to $4K 😩. But today I told myself, get up and get out the house. After days of fatigue from my cycle and a rough morning, I knew my spirit needed art. Needed something. The National Museum of Mexican Art. First time ever stepping inside after all these years in Chicago. I signed in on the tablet, tucked my journal under my arm, popped my AirPod in, and hit play on my Cleo Sol playlist. Honestly? I should’ve curated a Latin playlist to match the theme — but this was survival mode galavanting today. At first it was just me and the art. Quiet. Sacred. Room after room filled with colors, pain, pride, and resistance. The deeper I walked, the more I felt the parallels: the shared struggle of Black and Brown people—stories of enslavement, colonization, rebellion. I saw reflections of Blackness woven into the narrative: the darker-skinned faces, the nods to our enslaved ancestors taken to Spain, the cultural exchanges that bled into zoot suits and political firsts like Harold Washington supporting what could’ve been the first Mexican alderman. It reminded me that our histories are braided together — different threads, same loom. Same fight to exist, to create, to be seen as fully human. Around 1:30 the museum started to fill up, but I had gotten what I came for: inspiration, perspective, and a few notes scribbled in my journal. Then staff started side-eyeing me about recording (as they do 🙃), so I took that as my cue to exit. It’s Tuesday anyway—so tacos were calling. 🌮 Another solo galavant for the books. And another reminder: Black and Brown liberation been linked. Still is. 🖤🤎✨ #TheeGalavantingBae #MuseumChronicles #GalavantingThroughTheCity #BlackAndBrownUnity #ArtAsResistance #HealingThroughArt #SoloDateVibes #FreeThingsToDoInChicago
