There’s a really similar story about Rocky Mountain spotted fever in Montana. The indigenous tribes wouldn’t settle on the western side of the Bitterroot Valley bc when they did, people got sick.

I've always gotten a bit of a kick that Australia mines uranium for export but doesn't use it to make electricity... because it's okay for other people.. and if there's a problem it won't be global

Still lots of exposed tailings sitting around :/. I’ve found small piles throughout NSW but there are some big, accessible tailing piles in SA too. Have mapped out quite a few of them now.
