@eshyahogen: Replying to @meowmeow35_ a honeycomb smocking tutorial, as promised 😊 Smocking is an old English technique that was developed around the 15th century. Originally, it was used as a practical stitch to give structure and elasticity to the simple-cut, woven garments of the period, as well as giving labour workers better movement in their clothes. The name Smock comes from the garments it was used on, and thus the name stuck with the stitch. Later, smocking acquired a more decorative nature, on cuffs, neck lines, waist lines and more. The hight of its popularity came with the 18th and 19th century, but continued being a decorative detail all the way up to the 1970s. #sewing #sewingtiktok #smocking #slowfashion #fashion #fashiondesigner #fashionhistory #sewingtutorial

The best person to learn from is someone who just learned themselves, you remember what knowing nothing was like vs being so proficient the basics are second nature. 🥰

Hypothetically, if I started a dress when I was 100 lbs heavier (was size 20 now size 8) could I use this technique to bring the waist in without starting over?….

Now that I’ve actually watched and paid attention, I feel like this isn’t too terribly hard, it’s just extremely time consuming

This has given me the inspiration I needed for a fabric I have been saving for so freaking long! It’s a beautiful sheer dark purple fabric that I’ve been hesitant to use!

Because I am lazy, I travel the thread up and down behind the folds instead of cutting. This was a really great basic tutorial. Thank you for sharing it with more fiber curious people!

I've always wanted clothes with no elastic and this seems like a great alternative (?) A bit time consuming but it has it's own charm. Thanks for the tutorial! ♡

this is just so cool! I wonder if this can be used as a prettier version of an elastic back panel (often used in fast fashion these days) for a historical inspired dress or something 🤔
