Fortunately, many places have what is called “good Samaritan laws” which essentially say that if you acted in good faith when trying to help and it is clear you’re trying to help, you cannot be sued for whatever actually happens. Unfortunately not every place has this.

I know somebody that used to coach swimming had a reach in to save a girl that was drowning and her parents tried to press charges and got him fired for touching her without permission but what would happen to him if he just let her drowned
