@bdccarpenter: Replying to @Leanne - PCOS Diary the NHS soups and shakes diet. Gosh, this is always a controversial topic. In the news this week, the NHS (National Health Service) have published results of a famous “soups and shakes” diet replacement (that’s what the media are calling it). What is it? It is a total diet replacement system, meaning you ONLY eat what they give you. Your whole diet revolves around shakes, soups and bars, designed to support you nutritionally whilst ingesting a mere 800-900 calories per day. For reference, that is more than you feed a newborn baby but less than you might feed a toddler. Why are these so controversial? Well, they are brutal. Not everyone wants to spend 3 months consuming nothing but meal replacement style drinks and snacks. Many meal replacement style diets will have their fair share of negative reviews, and this is no exception. Even the authors of the study said it is not for everyone. Over 7,000 people were offered this by the NHS, yet less than 1,000 completed it. On the flip side, there ARE people who have followed this kind of plan and report beneficial results, and I think it would be a real shame to overlook people’s personal experiences. So, those are the pros and cons. What are your thoughts? #nhs #nhsuk #liquiddiet #diabetes #weightloss

I was one of the 1700 odds, I hated it, same textures, small variety of flavours was awful. I managed half the time before quitting. I am losing weight slower than on the plan but at least I enjoy

my nurse wife and I were talking about this tonight. our understanding was that the studies were VERY specifically looking at it as a way to get patients out of type 2 diabetes.

It’s really hard but it can work to get you into remission for your type 2 diabetes . It’s not for everyone.
