@jessicainskip: #greenscreenvideo #greenscreen How does the stock market work? What is the stock market and how does it work?
The stock market is just a bunch of companies. We measure the stock market through an index, most commonly the S&P 500. This is 500 of the biggest US stocks. Think of an index as an elite club.
What is the S P 500 beginner?
The S&P 500 is a market cap-weighted index that measures the stock market. It is a bunch of companies. If all the companies are doing well, the index increases (and vice versa).
Why does the stock market go up and down?
The stock market always goes up over time. But why?????? That is why index investing is so popular and time in the market is more important than timing the market. You can prepare for market changes. However, you cannot time market changes. Being prepared begins with financial literacy.
That is what our women in stock market podcast teaches. We are a teacher/learner-style podcast. The teacher is a 15-year finance expert, our learner is learning alongside you, asking questions, and removing all the financial jargon.
We want to be one of the best female finance podcasts and one of the best finance podcasts for women. It’s a personal podcast for women and everyone else who wants to understand how the stock market works.

The S&P500 is basically the all-star team of publicly traded US businesses.

So investing in S&P 500 index fund means you don’t have to pick stocks. The S&P 500 is self-cleaning.

What was defined as “industrial” is now defined as “technology”. The “industrial” sector was the top “technology” of that time. Be on the forefront of innovation and you will benifit!

Lower performing companies are replaced by newer, and higher earning companies. That’s why there will always be a list of the most profitable companies that cycle in and out.

I always thought S&P 500 was biggest companies on NYSE. Used to be true. But now too 7 are all Nasdaq. Seems weird, as Nasdaq used to be little startup PC type companies. Like Microsoft and li'l Apple
