20 wraps of ptfe. Keep tightening up the garden tap until you can feel it tightening up half a rotation more than hand tight. I've never had had a wonky, leaky tap in 26years.Don't over think it.

Dry fit the tap into the back plate, as soon as it’s fully in rotate the back plate on the wall until the tap is visually straight then mark the back plate on the wall where ever that position is.

Just use rapid blue get tap fixed to back plate and nipped up push it through the wall eye it up for levels and mark screw holes

Just wind it in first with your chosen paste etc and screw in.
