Let’s talk about estate sales! I oppose fast fashion, it’s wasteful, a lot of it is often stolen from small artists, but it’s so wildly available/accessible. I wanted to expand my wardrobe with unique clothing pieces, deeply develop my personal style, and not fall into fast cycling trends (as fun as they can be!). So, to the estate sales I went! Estate sales are not the most accessible option for finding clothing (a lot of the homes have multiple floors and tiny doorways) but I find for myself that if I brace my knees up, bring a crutch and a friend, I am mostly okay. I love going on the days where EVERYTHING is half off; It’s usually on Sundays. I typically go once a month, and the finds are always incredible. I love learning about the people who owned the items, and I thank them for the things I purchase whether they’ve passed or are simply moving (I am in their house after all!). Being on SSI/SSDI, I don’t have a lot of income. The clothing in big name stores are typically way too expensive for me, so this has been such a great option for finding unique clothing pieces at an awesome price.
