Because of its convenient location, it has developed into one of Japan’s largest residential areas for people who commute to the capital. With a population of over seven million, Saitama is one of the most populous prefectures in Japan. Major cities such as Saitama City, Kawaguchi, Kawagoe, and Koshigaya have grown rapidly, and the prefecture has an extensive transportation network that provides easy access to Tokyo. Saitama is not only known for its urban development but also for its rich natural environment. The western area is home to the Chichibu Mountains, where visitors can enjoy beautiful scenery such as the Nagatoro Gorge and stunning mountain landscapes throughout the four seasons. In contrast, the eastern part consists of wide plains crossed by major rivers including the Tone River and the Arakawa River. The prefecture has an inland climate, with hot summers and dry winters, and is also known for having many sunny days. Historically, Kawagoe prospered during the Edo period and is still famous today as “Little Edo” because of its well-preserved traditional warehouse-style streets. Saitama also preserves many cultural traditions and festivals, including the famous Chichibu Night Festival.
