They’re also supposed to refund you without making you apply or go through hoops and they absolutely still do this. I had to apply for a refund from AA a few weeks ago and they did indeed make me go through hoops to get it…

On the other hand, in the US they pay $$$ to volunteers when a flight is overbooked. I got $2,500 for being bumped 5x at EWR on a £350 flight from EDI to DCA via EWR.

Even tough this is the law some airlines(in my example Ryanair) will basically ignore you and give you nothing for your cancelled flight 8 hours before departure
