Have you heard about the Battle of Los Angeles? One of the greatest mysteries to ever happen in LA and during the entirety of WWII, happened on this day at Fort MacArthur in San Pedro, in 1942. What transpired that night has given way to the most out there theories, including my favorite - aliens. It is an event that has divided opinions between military personnel, WWII enthusiasts, and even the government. The only thing we know for certain is that many people, not just the people on duty that night, saw aircraft in the sky, and because of that, five civilians perished. It is an event that used to be recreated in the Great LA Air Raid event at the Fort MacArthur Museum, complete with a real Sherman Tank firing off shots (thanks to the Planes of Fame Air Museum in Chino) and anti-aircraft guns. It was truly one of the coolest events to happen in LA, with a live band, swing dancing and people coming in their 1940s best. Unfortunately, due to a lot of bureaucratic red tape, the event no longer happens. A truly devastating situation, as this is how hundreds of people learned it ever even happened. I feel an immense sense of pride that this mysterious event happened right here, in our city. And that we can lay claim to one of the only battles to ever happen stateside during the entire war. Have you heard about the Battle of Los Angeles? If you have, what do you think happened that night?
