Replying to @_kieran_fitzpatrick_ 1. Some critics try to say that Matthew and Luke contradict each other with the childhood of Jesus saying that Luke shows Jesus went to Jerusalem while Matthew says Jesus went to Egypt. This contradiction only arises if one has a reading comprehension issue. 2. Jesus was born in Bethlehem and was visited at the Nativity by shepherds from the fields in Israel. The mistake naysayers make is they assume the magi (wisemen) are the same. The magi mentioned in Matthew are from a country far east of Israel. 3. Jesus was born in Bethlehem - visited by shepherds - taken to Jerusalem to dedicate him. The naysayer then assume they did not return to Bethlehem simply because Luke says they returned to Galilee while Matthew has this whole trip to Egypt. Just because one does not mention the other does not necessitate that either is lying. The Holy Family probably did return to Bethlehem. We see this in Luke where after being called out of Egypt that Joseph was warned in another dream and they went to Galilee instead. Joseph was probably returning to Bethlehem and that's why he got the warning. 4. So now we have this chronology: Jesus was born in Bethlehem - the Shepards visit - Jesus is taken to Jerusalem for dedication - They return to Bethlehem - The magi speak with Herod I - The magi visit Jesus who was probably a year old - The magi never report back to Herod - The Holy Family flees to Egypt - Herod knows when the Star of Christ appeared so he ordered the slaying of all male children 2 years and younger - Jesus is probably 3 years old when Herod I dies so they head back the Bethlehem - Herod Archelaus is now king and the Holy Family flees to Galilee. 5. We have to remember that each Gospel was written to certain audiences and each gospel presents Jesus from a different angle. Matthew wrote what he felt was important for his angle and his audience while Luke wrote what was important for his angle and his audience. 6. Its funny that modern atheists and anti-Christians think they found these contradictions but what its due to their lack of study, which results in lower reading comprehension. 7. The timelines and locations of childhood Jesus in Matthew and Luke have been known and discussed at length amongst the Church Fathers and they chose to keep the texts as they were written rather than change them to get rid of the contradictions seen by those who have low biblical reading comprehension. This attests to the intellectual honesty of the Church and the integrity of the Scriptures over time. #kdhughes #tenkidokan #cwaassoc
