@drmichaelsays: Replying to @Joanne Healey i don’t realky like that either, but its to generate a conversation and share the decision making/problem solving so its not just a doctor lecturing you! 🙌🏻 #health #doctor #nurse

I actually like the question ‘what do you think the problem is’ because I often have ideas but too shy to say them outright

“Have you been Googling?” Makes me feel like I’m getting in trouble and have to lead them on a little dance so they can come to the same conclusion instead of telling the truth 😭

Could they not say ‘do you have a specific concern regarding these symptoms?’ or similar. Rather than making the patient feel like they’re stupid for being there, cos that’s how that question makes

why do we not have a mandatory MOT style health check system for humans?

I like to ask “is there anything in particular that you’re worried about/whats the thing you’re most worried about” to make sure I’m not only treating what I’m worried about but also what they are

maybe it's the wording of it that makes it worse like maybe it'd feel better for the patient and Dr to ask something like "do you have any major concerns or theories about what it might be that's

I don't like the assumption that my ideas come from Google, even though I want to share about family history and advice from family in the medical field, I'm asked "oh did Dr Google tell you that?"😫

I had terrible tooth/jaw pain that no pain relief or antibiotics worked on. clear X-rays in the dentist. I googled my symptoms. after my 5th appointment she'd asked me if I had any ideas on what this

I think it's also useful if the issue is quite vast and could have many causes. A patient could help the doctor find the root cause quicker/more efficiently. (1/2)

I’d rather be asked because I’ve tried telling the dr that an injury is the same as a previous where it required surgery and they just dismiss me and refuse to check the history 1/2

it's a bit like when they ask "what would you like me to do". I work in personalised care, so I understand the intent, but a lot of the time it comes across as a bit belligerent 😂

I don’t mind being asked, what I don’t like is when I’m asked and then instantly dismissed with an attitude x

It's the "what can I do for you" that's ok if you have built up a relation with patient over time but not at the start of a consultation 😱

I like it when GPs ask and take me seriously. Got fibromyalgia and I cannot expect my GP to read every medical study out there - but I keep up to date on them 😅 Gives us stuff to try

This is all well and good but I told them what I thought it was and it took 14 years to get a diagnosis, all it took was 1 scan for them to see it 🙄

I’d avoid saying “have you Dr Googled anything” just because it might give them the impression you think they’re a hypochondriac. If they’re comfortable they’ll tell you what they’ve Googled.

I found a lump and my GP asked me why I wanted it checked, and I was just, like, what. I'm here because every single person on the planet has always told me I'm always supposed to get lumps checked.

I always think them asking if I’ve googled it is a trick question cause if I say what I think is wrong she asks “oh and where did you get your medical degree?” …
