Every activity that has a competition with judges has some subjectivity to it. Regional differences exist in all dancing traditions and even many sports. This is why there is a panel of judges and not just one. She is hiding behind “I just do something different,” which while true, doesnt disqualify her from doing a bad job at the different thing she is doing. Her boyfriend has a similar style. His is more polished, but it is still evident they both have chosen a style that requires less skill

To add, the Federation had asked for ballroom dancing to be included in the Olympics, but the IOC said no cause it was too antiquated and needed to appeal to a younger audience, hence breakfasting.

As a former breakdancer, part of a crew, and avid watcher of world breakdancing competitions (ex, redbull) for over 25 years, I have never heard this argument made against sportification.
