Celebrating TET Lunar new year festival in Vietnam 🇻🇳 📍Ho Chi Minh City TET marks the first day of the Lunar New Year, and the beginning of spring in the North of Vietnam. The lead up to this festival is so amazing. The city if filled with flourishing flower stalls, lanterns and vibrant colours. Families gather each night to have food together, play games and have a karaoke session. When we firet arrived in Vietnam, we met so many people who were urging/ advising us to make sure we left Vietnam before 8th February as there were rumours that nothing would be open in Vietnam, we would struggle for food and transport: this is not correct. Most shops have been open throughout the whole holiday and even on the day of TET (10th february). Things that you will struggle with: 1. Transport: if you are heading north of vietnam close to this holiday, you will encounter cancelled buses or rearranged transport. We met a couple who were in Nha Trang and had been trying for 3 days to get transport up to the north. I would say to set up your base between 3 days before the festival so you dont face this problem. 2. Tourist attractions: all tourist attractions are closed on the day of this festival which makes total sense. We quite enjoyed a day of chilling out as travelling can become so face paced. 3. Food and drink shops: TET service charge is added in most restaurants so just double check the bill when paying. Some shops will close between 2 days before TET and reopen around 2 days after. But you will certainly not struggle for food and drinks (in Ho Chi Minh City anyway) We enjoyed a 1 hour dragon show which took place at 10pm and then a 20 minute firework display at 12am. 🎆 Of course you expect the hussle and bussle of getting back to your hotel after being in a huge crowd but we stayed 10 minute walking distance from the show so we faced no trouble with getting back. Late night snack after the fireworks: mcdonalds!! We had the best time being apart of this celebration and would encourage anyone to stay in Vietnam if you are travelling new the next lunar festival.
